currently have a 2000 x not enough power to tow a 24ft enclosed trailer with a 3000lb car (stock) I iam putting a 4.5 exhaust and a diesel innovations programmer in it. Will this make a difference. I was towing with a ford 460 plenty of power up down hills no problem yesterday I towed with the X great ride but lacked going up hills and small inclines slowed me down. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Excursion Forums!

In addition to the exhuast and chip/programmer I highly recommend a 3.5" downpipe,an AFE Stage 1 or 2 Intake Kit for starters and most importantly,Gauges! gotta have gauges when your truck is modified and towing as you don't want to toast the turbocharger, tranny or other vital components.

Post up whatever questions you may have and it doesn't matter how minor it may be.

I also had a 460ci in my '86 F350 4x4 dually,it was a Tow Beast!

My F350 had a 4 speed manual which towed a Miller 2 axle trailer with a loaded Ditch Witch and a Maxi-Paw.

On the big hills I dropped down a gear and the truck just went no problem

I recommend a Pyrometer(Exhaust Gas Temperature) Boost gauge and transmission.

Those are the three vital monitoring points most need.

I'm running with Autometer Z-Series gauges.

What is the total amount of weight you are towing???

You may want to think about investing in a 3 valve V-10 EX...That will out perform a 7.3L anyday..

I started towing a 26.5-foot boat...when full, about 7,000-7,500 lbs. Small inclines are no problem, the bigger hills it does have to downshift but I rarely lose any speed. Acceleration up those big hills is still there if I need it to b e, all be it minmal, but it's not like I'm dropping down to 45 MPH. 149,000 miles on my PSD X, 3.5" downpipe, 5" exhaust, K&N panel air filter...nothing else done to it.

The exhaust and programmer will certainly get you to where you want to be.

In the truck I've got Autometer Utlra Light boost, tranny and pyro gauges and really like them. Planning to add the set up to the X one of the these days along with adding a huge tranny cooler to the X which has 145K miles on the original tranny but has never been chipped.

That'd be awesome...if they made it. No 3V V10 w/TorqShift for the Excursions....
