While ascending a steep incline with cruise control my tansmission will, correctly, kick down and go from say 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm. What puzzles me, however, is that the tranny will, after a couple of seconds at 3000 rpm, drop about 200 to 300 rpm. It's not a downshift, as the initial one is because the rpms are decreasing not increasing. It seems to be totally normal, but I don't understand what the transmission or tc are doing at that moment? Anyone that can shed some light on my curiosity would be appreciated. Andy

What is happening is the Torque Converter is locking up. That's a good thing.

Mine does this as well. It's almost like a third-and-a-half gear.

Hey there. I have a easy fix for this. You can put a toggle switch in and have total cotrol of your converter. It helps you maintain your speed on down grades. You cane also tap into the warmup valve and turn it on on the down grade and use it as a exhaust brake. I went one better on my X. I have a trottle switch so when I start down a hill I release the throttle and the valve closes and the converter locks. The switch I use is a double throw so the out side runs the converter. This also has a switch on the brake peddle. With the converter locked on it is like driving a manuel trans but when you hit the brakes the micro switch unlockes the converter. I power brake mine slightly and let off the brake and people think I have a manual in the X.
