I am planning to buy a 2000 Excursion to pull a 24-foot travel trailer from Oklahoma to Nevada and back.. After the trip if I still like the truck, I'll keep it. Looks like a fun vehicle to own.
Any advice on my purchase would be greatly appreciated.
The current prospect is a 2000 V-10 2WD with 74,000 miles. The asking price is $14,800 from a used dealer here. I'm taking it to my local 4x4 shop where I know the guys pretty well to have them look it over. Anything they should look for? Is there anything this truck is known for wearing out? The trailer will weigh about 5500 lbs, and we'll have another 1000 lbs or so in the Excursion. That should be a reasonable total weight, for the trip, I believe. Right? Anything you all would suggest doing to the vehicle before a trip like that?
Thanks very much in advance.

Welcome to the forum! I would check the torque on all the sparkplugs. 2000s had some trouble with keeping them in. Not all of them mind you, but enough to justify getting them checked.
Ball joints are always a thing to check.
Make sure all the trailer wiring works.
That's about all I can think of. Things that need to be done vary based on the condition of the truck.

Curtis,
These are very solid trucks. I have 150,000 miles on my 2000 Excursion and really can't pinpoint anything major for you to have your guys look at other than the common wear items. monsta's recommendations above are a good starting point.
I keep a very detailed maintenance log of my Excursion that you can look at. Keep in mind that mine's a 4x4 and a diesel, but you can get a general sense of what I did in terms of maintenance up to 75,000 miles:
