Installing guages in my truck this week for tow out to Indy.... My question is... it OK to shut down the truck at 300 degrees? Stock truck with a AFE intake/filter

That's the going EGT temp that is recommended but we can't get ours below 375 during the blazing summer, wintertime no problem!

I personally Never, EVER, worried about shut down temps...
in any of my diesels (and even previous gas turborcharged cars)...
and I hav had remote startters with cool down features I never used more than once

Yes, years ago coking was a concern because of old designs of turbos and poorer quality oils...
but in the 20th century oils are infinitly betta and turbos as well...

If you are not pullling 10K lbs up a 10 mile 6% grade at full throttle, as long as you don't turn it off immediately, you do not have to worry about a cool down....

Normal driving for even a few minutes will let everything cool down to the point of safe to shut down...
real world, now many times do you pull off the interstate and shut down immediately ?
typically there's coasting off the ramps, turns into a service station/restaurant, idling at stop signs, etc... and MY cool down with A/C is more important than the engines cool down
so I typically leave the air on to cool ME down

Just my humble opinion -
course I also ignored the gloom and doom guys about the 03 6.0L being such a BAD motor -
was SUPER for me

OK, guages installed and now I have a question and the answers will vary (I think) What is the best location to put the pyro sensor, intake manifold or down pipe?

Thanks

Install it right at the drivers side exhaust manifold or better known as "Pre Turbo"

CHP,

Is there a installmethod that gives a more accurate reading than another? I remember reading that on here sometime last year but could not locate that posting...

Hmmm good point as I recall reading something similar a long time ago. My temp probe is thread tapped into the exhaust manifold but there's also the strap method where the hole is drilled and the temp probe is metal strapped on.

I think both are pretty accurate honestly.

Truck performed like a champ, guages gave great feedback.... Hit a high of 170 on the trans temp during one really long hill climb but it went right back down as soon as I crested the hill. Added Lucas trans fluid to the stock fluid and the temp stayed below 160 for the entire trip
