I bought one that has the telescopic screw supports to wedge it vertically. It has telescopic arms tp close off the space . They have them at PetSmart. My Golden stays put. Here's the link.

BTW--you can slide the three sets of tubular barriers up to completely eliminate any space for the dog's head to go through--unless your Shepard has had a Chihuahua head transplant |

When I had my full size Chevy Blazer, I tried both the metal tube and nylon web [used in place of a pick-up tailgate] and they only worked when I was nearby. I had two Vizslas then and one figured out how to move the tube type enough to get past and the other dog just chewed his way through the nylon. I finally gave in and built a carpeted platform about 10" off the floor and connected the dog to the big hook in the floor by way of a custom made leash with clips at both ends. It was long enough the dog could move around, but short enough to keep the dog from climbing over the seat. I use that same setup in my EX. Except in the EX I removed the 3rd row seat. It gives me hidden storage space underneath. I have two of those plastic boxes that were designed to store things under your bed at home. Fishing rods [in their cases] and rifles and/or shotguns can be stored out of sight. On top of the platform is a padded dog bed.. I only have one dog now [another Vizsla] and he is quite happy with his space. The platform gives him a panoramic view through the back windows without having to stand up.

hmm. maybe someone can make a solution that works for children under the age 0f 10 If it works for the German Shepherd it should work for one of those 2 legged dogs as well. |

| Quote: | | Come-on guys, these are dogs we're talking about here, not Royalty. Go to PetSmart, spend $60 on a crate, open the gates, slide the crate in and tell Rover "kennel". I've hunted from Ontario, Canada to Montana with my labs for ducks, geese, pheasants and anything else with feathers. My dogs see that crate going in the back and you can't keep them out of it. |
I'd have to agree with a couple posts above...our Shepherd's kennel/crate doesn't fit into the rear of the Excursion fully assembled, much less sideways and behind the 3rd row seat. PetSmart has a few options...I like the one with the door that opens for accessibility to the dog.
