JohnBoy, I think you're onto something. Who'da thunk??

I aired up the tires on all 4 corners to 70 psi and dropped the shock settings on my Rancho RS9000's to 3 all around. The ride is still great and I picked up 0.4 MPG on my last tank. I used to run the tires at 50 psi in front and 55 psi in the rear. Makes a big difference.

I'm averaging 16.5 MPG nowadays -- you'd think the refineries were making better diesel with as much as we've been paying for it! I have no other way to explain the increase in fuel economy so I attribute it to the tires being aired up.

Well, less rolling resistance is a contributor....
always found that on long highway trips if I took the time to air up for the smooth interstate rides, it usually helped.... but not a lot as you've found....
and it usually meant a far rougher ride !
but at least it's going in the right direction !!!

and even betta, by adjusting the ranchos, you can do it with the same comfort level - it's good !

but I still recognize that putting your right foot on a diet
so it is lighter on the throttle
is probably the best contributor

and on edit - a by product is a lighter feeling turn and usually better tire wear !!!!

but my soft posterior liked the ranchos @ ONE

Being able to dial down the Rancho's is the only way I'm able to comfortably drive with the tires at 70psi. Otherwise it's a rock-hard ride. I would say that the ride is very comparable to setting 4 on the rancho's and 50-55 psi in the tires. Cornering is much more controlled, too.

265/75R16 (the factory size). I believe that's what the factory tire sizes are.

Roger that on the 265's as you can run 70psi and then some,I've got the 285's back on and 70psi is the limit before they start wearing on the center of the tread

Interesting on the psi and shocks. I am thinking I should have got the adjustable Ranchos vs the Pro Comps. I run Dueler Revos, factory size. The dealer is trying to tell me 38/45psi. They have got to be high!! The tire is almost on it's side wall. What are you guys recommending? 50/55psi with non adjustable shocks, or run em up to 60 or 70psi, all four the same pressure?

38/45 in an EX ?!?!!?!

That seems like it almost so low to be dangerous !!!

Look at your recomended pressure on the door info plate and the max pressure on the tire sidewall...

Bet both are way about 38 !!!

I ride with as high a pressure as my butt-o-meter can handle...
too low and it's mushy ! too high and it's hard as a rock

Thats what is scary. The tire is an E load up to 80psi cold. The door panel is what listed 38/45psi!! When I called Ford about it the young lady said to go by the door panel, (she was just reading junk, documents, etc....). When I asked her if the door panel was accurate since the Ex originally came with the wrong tires, and had a recall; she said she was not aware of any Ex recalls, and that I need to take it to a dealer to have it looked at. Ummmm, Yeaaaahhh, Okkkkkk, I'll get right on that lady as soon as I am done selling my ocean front property in Iowa. She still did not understand. I am figuring 55/60psi is probably a much safer range to start at, and adjust from there.

We prefer to have the best of both worlds with a comfortable controlled ride with minimum rolling resistance but still get as many miles out of the tires as possible, our TKO's new was $140 each now they're in the $180+ range
