Are there any X's that a 44 gal tank was not used, possibly a 37-38 gal tank? I have never put over 38 gal in the X, but the light had been on forever and the computer said 0 miles to empty. I know not to trust the computer, but eventually it would be right. I guess. How many gallons left for the light to come on? |

Hard to say how much is left after E...
and I NEVER want to find out in a diesel
but it is a 44 gal tank - just hard to put that much in....
unless you've done the in tank mods to trim t, there is a "long" vent tube that extends well into the tank and cuts off most pumps WAY before the tank is full...
You CAN fill it to the brim if you want, but it takes MANY cutoffs...

To my knowledge when the low fuel light comes on there's like 4-5 gallons left in the tank in most cases but I never let it get below 1/4 as the air drawn up from the tank in the fuel line will ruin fuel injectors and at last check they run about $200 a pop for the Powerstrokes.

My light comes on with 8 gallons left!

Eric, where would you put the tank? Are you looking to replace the stock tank or add like a saddle tank?
I've not seen anything larger for an Excursion.

In some 4x4 magazine a few years back (when the Excursion had only been out for a year or two), there was a built-up Excursion that had a 60-gallon tank. It replaced the factory 44 gallon tank. I would love the extra capacity as it appears there's plenty of room for a taller tank.
