I posted a thread, MPG?, dated 9/11/05, asking others about their mpg. Thanks for all the responses. As you may already know, I experienced a significant increase in fuel consumption. I am currently experiencing 11.5 mpg in town (hand calculated). I used to get about 15 in the city. Has anyone had this experience? If so, what could it be? The only thing done at the dealership was a CPS replacement. I have not experienced a power loss. I changed the fuel filter, air filter, and even cleaned the Exhaust Back Pressure tube with a some carb cleaner.
When the dealer changed the CPS, the tech ran a diagnostic test of the injectors, crankcase pressure, etc. and all was normal. |

Could be a poorer fuel quality possibly??
You normally run your tank to empty before you fill up?
Have you performed any in-tank or pre-pump upgrades?

I usually fill the tank when it reaches the 1/4 tank mark. I have not performed any in-tank or pre-pump upgrades. My father gets better mileage from his Suburban.
Since it's under warranty, I'll try the dealership and let you know if they find anything. And if I keep getting this mileage, I may just have to sell this vehicle.
Thanks, |

Our stock fuel systems are subject to alot of air molecule ingestion from the fuel sloshing in the tank to air leaks in the fittings leading up to the fuelpump.
Air making it to the injectors will kill your mileage and reduce the life of the engine overall.
Dealer will most likely say change your fuel filter and your engine is running within spec to get you outta there

Kind of getting sick of paying up to 91 cents per gallon more than 87 octane gasoline for lousy diesel fuel. 203K miles on 99 F250 work truck and up until the last few months was getting around 15-16 mpg and I'm now seeing 12-13 mpg. Thinking it's bad quality diesel fuel!

Alot of owners have been reporting their mileage going to junk,I'll have to agree with lesser quality fuels for sure.

I think I'm lucking out. I must be the only one with mileage that's improving! I figured since I was paying more for diesel, it MUST be better quality!

Im suspecting mine is droppping with the last two tanks of fuel I put in. My trip meter has dropped which I didnt pay much attention to because I know its not very accurate, however I never reset it, so it should be consistant, albeit consistantly wrong but consistant.
Ill have to go through my Wright Express bills and see whats going on.
BTW I run my tank to empty and then fill it up. I cant see leaving a 1/4 tank is going to make any difference.
