Guys, are your airbags providing additional lift to the rear when NOT towing?
I want some rake on my truck...maybe a couple o' inches.

Ummr-surprised Landyot did not suggest these--he has too much humility to brag on his invention. He fabricates radius rods--neat little invention that prevents spring wrap and thus the pot hole-bang - lets go in another direction scenario. As landyot has explained before--the leaf springs have a spacer to connect the springs to the axle. They use the spacer since the weight on the rear of a F250 is not near that of the X. The extra distance allows more torquing of the rear axle on the springs...so you bang pretty hard--to the point you feel like the X is jumping in another direction. Also I would highly reccomend a Helwig anti sway bar. These two additions improved my ride quality 100%. I don't know about the airbags but a thought might be that the airbag is raising the body to a higher position relative to the axle--like another spacer. I would theorize that this would make spring wrap worse.

Hope this may be helpful.
David

yes the air bags give you lift when not towing if you leave some air in them. i can go as low as 10 psi and be level instead of sagging. never go below 5 psi.

have not got my radius rods yet but they are coming!

just checked ride-rite.com min. pressure is 5 max is 100psi for 2wd excursion rears. i put 80 in mine once and looked like i had lifted the back and lowered the front they lift probally 3 inches if you go 80psi or more. at least mine did. when i run 55 psi for towing the truck sits way jacked up after i take the trailer off!

Thanks for the "plug," but when I read his description of the problem, it didn't sound like he was describing the reverberation in his tail end that's common to Excursions. Sounded more like a single bang to me. And that sounds like things are making contact when they ought not to. While I'd like for him to get a set of radius-rods, I don't think that is the solution in this particular scenario.

Check out "Must Do #5" at the following link:

And you can see some more photos in my gallery. On the downside, I recently stopped accepting orders for the current production run, and won't be offering them again until March or April of '06.

I'm already farming out a good portion of the work to a retired coworker. Without him, I'd really be swamped. He really appreciates the jigs & fixtures I've made 'cause it makes his job easier. I use eleven different jigs & fixtures to build a GEN-II r-rod kit.
