I have a similar problem but mine only shakes when slowing down fast from highway speeds. I will get a vibration starting at 45mph and it goes away by 35mph. I am going to change the shocks and rotate the tires to see if it helps.

If you have many miles on your Excursion and experiencing vibration when applying the brakes I'll motion towards warped brake rotors.

With warped rotors I would expect to have vibration at all speeds when hitting the binders??

I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks then in the drink with the boat on the rocks.... But either way theres gonna be a good story!!!

It can be at a window speed and down,I'm speaking from my personal experience and feedback I've gotten from other owners over the years.

How many miles on your X,are you the original owner or bought it used?

Gents,

warped rotors are myth.

Here's a great read to back up my statements and a possible solution to your woes.

It all has to do with proper break-in on new rotors. Avoid proper break-in on rotors and you will have vibrating brakes in no time. Turning/resurfacing is only a band-aid to the problem. The above article is a good read.

Just my .02, I just broke the torque, re-seated the tires on the lugs, and torqued to 165 ft lb, in a star pattern and I have cut the vibration down to almost nothing, Now I know its warped rotors, I do mostly stop and go driving in town and only notice them when they got warm!

True. Improper torque CAN indeed cause the rotor's surface to malform somehow. It was certainly evident on my 2000 even with ART rotors and pads.

However, I think a lot of the material transfer has to do with the very dusty pads used on all Fords today. It is obvious that the more prone the pad is to "dusting", the greater the chance for material transfer. THEN take into account the heat generated by stopping these beasts, the crappy stop and go traffic conditions most experience today and well...you get the picture on how that article is so true.

I now take my foot off the brake and put my truck into park when I stop at a light if I've just come down one of the large inclines here. Plus, I was very, very anal about breaking in my brakes on this truck since it only had 31 miles on it when I bought it.
