Is the stock radio a true double DIN or not?

What are you gathering?
I've been told that it is "not quite" a double DIN (by the radio dude whom I question) and the trimming would be needed to install a double DIN head unti.
I'm not really into "trimming" my interior dash pieces.

I asked a group of 99-2005 owners last night about the double DIN situation and have to agree it's not quite a full double but requires a slight trim but thats not my gig either
I think it's more of a DIN and a half honestly.

I have a stupid question, but I am going to ask it anyway.. . When you change the stock head unit and you have the steeringwheel mounted controls for the radio ( and pratically everything else but the toaster) can you reconnect them to run the Alpine? I have a 2005 Excursion Limited and have been contemplating changing the head, adding amps etc, but I dont want to lose those on steering wheel controls.. |

I have not dibied into the steering wheel controls to aftermarket stereo but will suspect they''ll be propietary controls to the stocker only.

That's a perfectly valid question. They do make adapters for the external CD changers but in my search of Google and eBay, I couldn't find any specific Ford steering wheel control adapter for use with Alpine products on a SuperDuty/Excursion. Several adapters exist, however nothing turned up in my searching.
