We've had excellent results with the Rancho 9000X shocks over the last 3 years,we tow occasionally tow up to 8,000 lbs but most of the time is local and highway traveling.

If you haven't installed a rear sway bar on your Excursion as of yet I highly recommend that before shocks

The Hellwig sway bar available from JCWhitney at $159 shipped

Just installed Pro Comp 9000 today and already noticed a major difference in the response to bumps and such...so much so that my wife, the regular X driver, called me and commented on the difference. You will always be able to feel just about every bump or variance in the road, but the rigid response of those bumps can be softened. I got four shocks, steering stabilizer, and four shock boots for $157 from 4 wheel parts. This month they are running 20% off so it made it a little easier to swallow.

it was me in another post that stated i could get the RS shocks

i was shot down saying sams had them for $275 shipped,

at $80 each it looks likes sams is now near $320 for the set.

my pricing from my vendor was about $70 each plus about $15 shipping to your location

I don't think you're shot down there Glenn,I check Sams once every couple weeks watching the latest deals and they still have the $274.00 Special going on according to their site.

If I do not have a factory steering stabilizer, and do little to no towing, is it worth installing one? I have bought a new stabilizer, but when I went to replace the old one I found out that I did not have one to replace

Yes you'll want to install it there Andy,it'll greatly reduce vibration and shake when hitting potholes, railcrossings, rough road surfaces, etc.

Your 4x4 Excursion must be the first I've known that did not come with a stabilizer from the factory.

Two years ago I traded my 5.5" fabtech lift for his factory set up due to my wifes pregnancy. Whatever was off of his 2002 X is what I suposedly got. It was still a good trade for me. He paid labor plus $400 and the tires were recalled about a month after I took them from him, so I got a new set of tread too. What should I expect to pay for the hardware?

Finally replaced the old RS9000's in the rear with new RS9000x's. As mentioned earlier, one of my rear 9000's got punctured and leaked. This made for one very bumpy ride. The ride was noticably different just pulling out of the driveway with the new shocks. Now we can cruise this Holiday weekend in comfort again.

Punctured Rancho shock leaked out at the bottom:

RS9000 (top) vs. RS9000x (bottom). The 9000 looks to be a little shorter design and now has a red dial instead of a black dial. The 9000x has 9 settings of adjustability whereas the 9000's only had 5. Originally I had my 9000's set to level "3" in the rear. I now have the 9000x's set to level "5".

Did it get punctured at the top of the shock Eric?

I haven't cleaned it to give it a full inspection yet. I think it might have punctured or started leaking down by the dial, based on where the fluid seemed to be leaking from. I'll take a more in-depth look over new year's weekend when I'll be spending some quality time in the garage doing other mods to the X.
