I just experienced transmission failure coming back from Orlando to South Carolina. I felt like it shifted hard a couple of times on the way down and it made a little noise one time and no other problems. COming back, we were cruising around 80-85 and stopped for a pit stop. When I stopped and started back, it sounded like someone had thrown a sack of BB's into the transmission. Did not think we'd get her into high gear but it did change and it did great in overdrive. We limped into the Ford dealer at 20 mph once we got off the interstate. Thankfully it is under extended warranty--will let you know the outcome. BTW, it is a 2001 with 79K..transmission fluid has been changed 3x since I have had it--bought it with 18K miles. Fluid is only 4 months old...Oh well!! Thought it was good to get home the last 250 miles on a banged up transmixer. Hardest part was not making rest stops til we got to the dealer!

I hope you removed the chip you had installed, otherwise your extended warranty will most certainly be voided!!!

Oh yeah! I took off my Hypertech program--mainly because I would lose it when they ran OBD. I had my wife meet me at the dealer (it was after hours and they were closed) and pulled it off right there.

Here's an update. The warranty company approved a new transmission. My service guy told them "Hey you have this under warranty for another 25K miles---now what do you want to do???""

That one cracked me up. Turns out the intermediate clutch literally cracked and everything went to hell. Tech told me Ford builds the transmission to where if it cannot reach second, for instance, it will attempt to go to third. I can attest to that as it got me 225 miles to my home.
