Well, I've done a quick search and didn't find anything like this. I was was driving down a city street, turned a corner and, when I when to accerate, it was like I slipped into neutral. The engine just revved. I checked the shift lever thinking I had indeed bumped it into neutral, but no. I coasted into a parking lot and moved the selector through each range several times. Still, no engagement. So I called for a tow. After getting my X home, I started the engine and moved the selector through the ranges. I now had engagement and could drive the X. I didn't take it anywhere though before having it checked out. The next morning, I took it to the Ford dealership, about a mile away (they told me to go ahead and drive it in),and made it to just across the street from Ford. Same symptoms, but now had a noise that sounded like the whine of a power steering pump low on fluid. Yes, I did check the transmission fluid, the night before, and it was at the appropriate level. We pushed the X into Ford's parking lot. About an hour later, a mechanic and the service adviser went out to drive it around the building and made it about 3/4 the way around the lot and experienced the same thing. They just got out and told me the transmission was toast. The "pump probably failed and probably took out the torque converter". Best thing I could do was to order a new transmission. However, it goes into a transmission shop tomorrow for a "look see" and possible repair or rebuild. Has anyone heard of such a thing? Prior to this, the transmission worked great, never any slipping, clunks, or unusual noises. My X is a 2000 LTD with 70,000 miles (V10 4x4) .

Transmission failure???

Thought it was good to get home the last 250 miles on a banged up transmixer. Hardest part was not making rest stops til we got to the dealer!

I hope you removed the chip you had installed, otherwise your extended warranty will most certainly be voided!!!

Oh yeah! I took off my Hypertech program--mainly because I would lose it when they ran OBD. I had my wife meet me at the dealer (it was after hours and they were closed) and pulled it off right there.
