My wife gave me a remote start for Xmas and had it installed yesterday. It is just the remote start that Ford sells. It came with its own transmitter that only controls the remote start. Now I have to carry 2 transmitters.

Does anyone know if I can use a transmitter from the Ford alarm/remote start, that has 4 buttons, with my system? Or, do they make an aftermarket transmitter that will work with the factory remote entry and remote start systems?

Any help would be appreciated!

By the way, what a great forum! I am asking a lot of questions now but hope to contribute in the future!

Merry Xmas to everyone!

I have one that is just a module that gets wired in and uses the factory remote. By pressing the unlock 3 times it should start now if I could just get my factory remotes to work

I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks then in the drink with the boat on the rocks.... But either way theres gonna be a good story!!!

Merry CHRISTmas to you !

Hey, just went thru your area @ Thanksgiving.... the in-laws are in Cordova...
*****************************

The Furd remote I got came with the 4 button remote...
they just swapped out the remotes or the guts, not real sure....
but I would REALLY have an issue with carrying two remotes myself

I have an installers cell phone I can call if that will help...

Was your just the remote start add-on? The installer I talked to said it couldn't be done. I think differently. If you have a contact and they verify it can be done, I will go back to the dealer and ask them to swap them.

yes mine is just a remote start add on module but its not a factory unit. It overides the PATS system just during the remote starting I have not gotten a chance to try it yet since my remote will only work after I go out and push one of the door buttons to "wake it up" and while I am out there I might as well start my truck with the key. The dealer tells me for around 80 an hour they will try to find out what the problem is but dont guarentee anything except the 80 and hour. I can buy a new GEM unit for 325 that may just fix my problem but then they still got me for the key programming but there are no guanentees there either. I wish I could find someone that has similar problems.

Oh yea Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!! Everyone

No need to verify....
this is my third Ex and the 3rd Ford unit put in...
came with two 4 button remotes....

SOunds like your installer may have done some slight of hand ????

look out on the web and all the adss show the 4 button remotes...

in fact, I have a few of the spare keypads and and old four button remote off my old Ex...

Did you have the Remote Start Only system installed. From what I am gathering, it seems there is another system that incorporated the remote keyless interface.

On my aftermarket alarm/remote start, they just look at the "wait to start" light with another wire. When the WTS light goes off, it starts the vehicle. Any competent shop should be able to do this for you...hell, I had mine done at Circuit City and they were able to figure it out. That's saying a lot!
