My wife and I are taking our five children ages 5 to 12 to Disney World. Here is the problem (besides taking five kids on a road trip to disney world) We have an 03 Eddie Bauer, is there any way to have the movie sound in back and still be able to listen to the radio or cd's up front. I have never really cared before as we have never taken the beast on a long trip. Any suggestions anything anyone else has tried and worked or not worked...

There are five children and one possibly two jacks for headphones.

you can get splitters for the jacks for extra headsets or go cordless.

Chainsaw,
How do the cordless headsets work? When something is plugged into the headphone jack as I am assuming this would can you listen to something else up front?

We have made that same exact trip several times! If you have the wireless headphones, they can listen to the movie while you listen to whatever you want up front. At least that is the way it is in the 04. I assume they are the same units. If I remember correctly, you start the movie, then on your stereo unit (up front), push the "2" and "4" (tunning pre-selectors) buttons at the same time. It will then split the signal. I am not sure if that works with plugged in headphones, but do the above and give it a whirl. Also, we found out that you can use basically any wireless headphones on the system. We took the ones from our Honda Odyssee which gave us 4 sets of cordless when we go on trips.

Thanks to both of you for your posts. I am looking for anything to make this as smooth of a trip as possible, I think your suggestions will help with that. I'll wave when we drive through GA.
Thanks,
CP

Our typical roadtrip is about 3,600 miles roundtrip Dallas to Phoenix to Northern California and back.
The combination that has worked for our two boys (4 & 6) is they have two 7.5" LCD screens with headphones hooked up to the DVD player.
For momma and I we have XM Satellite Radio to enjoy without having to change FM channels every hour or two and the bonus of no commercials makes the trips go by alot faster!
Our next trip is Dallas > Denver > Salt Lake City > Twin Falls Idaho and back this December
We always have two large coolers loaded for bear on these trips to lessen fast food stops.

Ahhhh, Disney World. Brings back fond memories of our trip last year when the 6.5TD in my Suburban blew up. We had to rent 2 vans to get the 5 kids and two dogs back to Jersey where I picked up my brother's truck, promptly turned around, drove back to Disney World, picked up the trailer and drove home. At the end of that trip, I couldn't even remember my name.

For some reason, the dogs always seem to take the edge off our trips. Them, and a boatload of CDs.

HAH, that's a haul.

I'm making a 1200 mile haul from Minneapolis to Greensboro, NC in a couple weeks with a packed X and towing the wife's car on a trailer. Thankfully, we just have a 100 lb dog. The X will be filled to the gills with as much junk as we can pack.

Anyone have tips on keeping the wife occupied for 1200 miles so there is no fighting???

If you're tired of changing CD's and fading in/out radio stations well then Satellite Radio is the answer Eric, well I know my wife looks towards the long roadtrips since we installed it a little over 2 years ago
