Hello guys,
My 2002 "Road Whore" has just turned 163k and still gets 19-20 almost 21 on highway solo!!
Everything is original except :

Tires - second set FREE on Firestone recall at 105k - still OK

Alternator - replaced at 71k - Ford billed me for it and wouldn't budge.

Tranny fluid at 69 k from drain hole. Still has original good shiftin' tranny and filter.

Rear differential fluid changed at 161k - Mobil 1 75/140

Serpentine belt at 163k (today) and upper hose to Super Duty type (thanks CHP)

I still can't believe it but all these parts are untouched as they left Ford: brakes and rotors (yeah, they pulse), tranny, all engine, turbo and fuel parts (except filters and oils), batteries, starter, exhaust, cooling system and gold antifreeze, shocks and all drive train !!!!

I still can't believe it!!! I jump in this Exc and drive 2000 miles at a clip and it just "keeps on truckin'"!!! Yeah, these monsters aren't cheap but, talk about durable!!

My next steps (out of guilt) are:

1. Coolant flush/change- I'll put in new Ford Gold and distilled water.

2. Transfer case fluid change- Dexron ATF.

3. FINALLY, tranny filter and second time for tranny fluid Dexron.

4. BRAKES- I'll just change all 4 rotors and pads. Or should I cut rear rotors?? New DOT
3 fluid of course.

5. New shocks and steering damper- recommendations???

6. Power steering fluid - Dexron.

7. Exhaust- what's a good " flow through muffler and back " stainless system???

I"ve driven tons of highway miles from Florida to New York and lots of times the 20 foot car trailer was behind ( 11 to 13 mpg). I know the highway miles are easier but I also drive super easy when the truck is cold. On the whole , I'm pretty astounded. Whatta' ya' think guys?????

I'm creeping up on 170,000 miles in my '00. Making a 1200-mile one-way trip this week(end) and busy getting her ready. I've done just about all of the bolt-on upgrades one can do and too am impressed with how it just keeps on going. I'm on my 2nd transmission, but this one seems to be fairing well. Running Amsoil synthetic for just about every fluid possible.

Regarding your brakes - I would get all new rotors. 163k is a ton of miles on one set.

Shocks - I like Rancho RS9000x's. Bilstein's and Edelbrock's are favored by many forum members as well. You can't go wrong with any of them. I can't believe you are running stock shocks. You will notice a significant difference with the new ones.

Exhuast - you may just consider a Walker Big Truck muffler and be done with it...unless your exhaust is falling apart and you need a whole new system. This will open it up a bit more and let her breathe.

Here's to another 160k!

'67 Galaxie 500 - 390 FE, .030" over, FE to AOD adapter, disc brake conversion. The Daily Driver.
'00 Excursion - 7.3L PSD, LANDYOT Gen-II Radius Rods, Factory Tech Valve Body, 200K+ miles and going
