My a/c compressor comes on no matter what I have selected on the climate control. I thought it was only suppose to come on only with " a/c or defrost" selected. Has anyone else had this problem?

Actually, it is supposed to be on in all positions except "panel" and "floor". Double check all positions by placing the switch into a position and then physically looking at the compressor to verify it is on or off. If it truely is on in all positions let me know and I'll dig up some older posts on another board that addressed this.
Good luck!

Mikie thanks, I checked all positions again verifing the compressor clutch is engaging. Here is what I found.
max a/c, a/c, defrost, and defrost floor combined
compressor is on. as it should be
floor
compressor is off
panel, and panel floor combined
compressor is turning on and off for long and short periods of time.
Thanks for your help
Jay

Hmmm...shouldn't be coming on in the panel position. Panel/floor yes. Strange.
If you still want to troubleshoot it let me know and I'll put you in contact with a guy on another site who's a Ford technician who specializes in the electrical system.

Mikie,
Sorry it took so long to respond, I was out of town for Easter.
Thanks for your help. I am not going to try and fix the problem, I'll just take it in to the Ford dealer.
Thanks,
Jay

Can anyone explain why the system is designed this way? Every other car / truck I've owned has a separate A/C button. Did Ford think we couldn't figure out when we wanted the A/C on? |

Dunno, but every other Ford truck I've owned has been this way.
