I installed LED lights into my EB running boards.
They light up the entire running board and it is a nice white light, almost like HID's. Better than the yellowish bulbs that are not very bright.

Thanks. Actually, I have yet to carry anything topside. Modded? A GEN-IV radius-rod kit is going on ... or should I say going underneath? ... next week. I'll consider some Rancho or Bilstein shocks later on.
| Quote: | What's on the list? Ditch those fugly running steps? I'm sorry Ken...I didn't mean to dis you ride... I had step bars on my 2000. I always thought the lighted ones were somewhat useless with the placement of the lights. The light placement on the Navigators is SO much better! Two lights in a housing put right in the middle of the board below the B-pillar. |
No "dis" taken. My skin is a little thick. With this X, I doubt I'll add a bunch of stuff like I did on the '01. I saved the Lightning CHMSL from the '01, and will install it on this '05. In regards to the lighting, I really liked the exterior lighting that was on Mrs. Landyot's 2000 EB Explorer. It had lights mounted on the bottom of each exterior mirror that lit up the GROUND where you're stepping. If I get the time and inclination, I'd like to rig up something like that under these boards. I want to avoid that puddle, thank you. The '01 running board lights left the ground dark. |

I've been pondering using LED strips or even neon under the running boards for the same reason.
I have the non-lighted running boards this time around and although there hasn't been an issue when more light would have made a difference getting in the truck, it would still be a neat thing to hit the fob (when I actually don't leave it in the truck) and see a swath of light come from under the truck.
I've also thought about lights mounted under each door but that may require me cutting the sheet metal. Something I'm not a big fan of.
I think the best bet would be for me to install the lights for the doors and remove the reflectors but how custom is that?

What relectors? The ones on the interior door panels? THAT'S ONE MORE THING I noticed about this '05 EB. My '01 LTD had lights in those panels instead of just reflectors. So if you want lights there, you can just grab some FOMOCO OEM parts and wire them in. However, I don't know if the '05 panels have the notched holes for mounting the lights ... but shouldn't take more than a drill and a small triangular file to make your own holes. |
