Hi everyone, just found this site last week after searching long and hard for a solution to my poor handling excursion. White knuckle driving is a very good way to describe it. I've already done the balljoints, tierod ends, adjusted the steering box, etc. Nothing has improved the handling of the vehicle. Wanders like crazy, almost dangerous to drive Body lean, etc. I'm sure everyone is familiar with it.

Well, after finding this site and using the search button, alot. I just placed my order for my upgraded parts and hope to find time to install them very soon after they arrive.

I'm going with V code springs up front, F code springs in the rear (holding off on the radius rods until later, if needed). Bilstein shocks at all four corners. Hellwig swaybar in the rear. Hopefully, these changes will make the ride much safer and enjoyable.

The Excursion is currently V10 powered, but soon will be powered by a 5.9L cummins.

Here's a pic of the excursion in it's current state. Stock springs, shocks, etc.

Looks good with the new 17" Ford wheel/tire takeoffs.

Welcome aboard! Glad you found us. The sway bar will make a night and day difference with body roll. The Landyot Radius Rods are what cured the white-knuckle driving for me.

Have fun with the upgrades!

balljoints, new shocks at all 4 corners and Helliwig made a huge improvement in my ride. Hope you have the same results.

By the way love the 17"s. Were they a direct bolt on or did you need to make any other modifications. My stock 16's are gettting all pitted would love to make the same upgrade as you.

Those 17's came off an 05+ Super Duty? How'd you get them to work?

I'd consider buying that old V10 off you when you do the swap.

Well, my hellwig bar and rear shocks came today, however there was a hole in the swapbar box. Roughly half of the parts were missing. I called Summit Racing and they are shipping me another one tomorrow and having this one picked back up. I was hoping to get the bar on tomorrow...

Oh well, I should have the springs by tomorrow and can atleast get those on.

The wheels are off of the 05 and newer Fords. Their is alot more backspacing on the wheels therefore I got some 2" spacers off of ebay. Once the wheels and spacers are installed it fills the wheel wells much better than the stock tires/wheels. The rear tires don't look sucked in as they did before.

For those that are interested, once you use the Ford 17 wheels (which are fairly cheap on ebay) you can take advantage of brand new takeoff tires (either on ebay or at dealers), my current tires are BFG rugged terrian (E load rating, 265/70-17). These tires from Walmart were close to $650 however you can get them brand new as takeoffs for between $300 and $450. Also, hummer takeoff tires are usually available cheap, BFG all terrian (D load rating) 315/70-17.

The engine and transmission will be for sale once the swap is started (hopefully this summer).

Got the V codes installed this morning (took 4 hours) and a new steering damper. The new shocks don't show up until next week. This evening I put the F codes on the rear, took 3 hours including new shocks as well.

A few questions about the F codes in the rear. The bottom leaf which is the anti-wrap leaf with the rubber bumper is facing the rear? The stock excursion springs have this facing the front. The stock setup would prevent wrap when under acceleration, this new setup will only prevent wrap under deceleration? Seems backwards?

Also, they didn't come with the rubber bumper on this leaf so I reused the stock one (which I know isn't correct because it really gets squished when everything is lowered back to the ground.

The ride is much better but I've still got the wandering and more swaying than I want. Hellwig swaybar should be here next week as well to help.

I guess the Radius rods may still be necessary?

The new springs raised the Excursion 2" in the front and 1.25" in the rear. All and I mean all of the clunks, sweaks, rattles, bumps, noises are gone that I had before when driving over bumps, into driveways, over potholes, etc.

I recently had V and F codes installed on my '03 7.3L PSD Ltd. The thick leaf on the bottom of the F code spring pack is not an anti wrap leaf. It is the dual rate leaf which gives extra support under heavy loads. It would not have a bumper on it. But who knows you may have come up with something new if it works. Seems like it would interfere with normal spring action though.

I went ahead and pulled the stock excursion anti-wrap rubber bumpers back off the overload spring on the F's. You are right it would interfere with normal spring action. Apparently there is supposed to be a little rubber pad (mayber 1/4" thick) that snaps into place here that I will have to get from Ford.

Once I pulled these out, the rear sat alittle lower. It is now only 40" to the fender well opening.

I'll take some pics tonight and try to get them posted.
