Sorry for all the question? biggest is the coolant and towing
Just bought a 2000 limited 4x4 v-10 loaded ex with 100,000 miles on it. I have a 2004 lightning that i want to keep in the garage in the winter and be able to pull a 12,500 boat.
Just new to the ford excursion, and want to findout the things i need to know tips and tricks i guess? Thanks
What are some best bangs for your buck on performance and gas milage and towing?
k&N drop in filter? Any exhaust that doesnt sound like crap and gives some gains??
Will it be able to pull this boat alright?
What gears do i have ? plate on drivers door says nothing? axle tag says..

What else should i do maintenance wise??
I have got new oil 5w30 motorcraft/filter
motorcraft plat. spark plugs it calls for
fuel filter
pcv
seafoam in tank/ and sucked threw vac. line
radiator flush
new coolant (Went to autozone to get the flush and fluid. My fluid when i bought it was orange looking. When autosone pulled up what coolant it calls for it say use DEX-Cool (Recomended) so i bought 4 gallans of it? Should i use this gm coolant?? In my factory book it say do not use ford ext. life antifreeze orange in color, and under that it say do not use Dex-Cool or any other brands that meet for spec's? What should i do?? Is the Dex cool alright ot use??
What do i need to get for the 4 wheel drive front dif and rear and how many bottles? Never had a 4x4 before so ma sound stupid??
How many qts of trany fluid for draining the pan and changing filter?? |

3.73 Open diff. That makes your tow rating 9600lbs. Hook up that trailer and you'll be over in every category. I've not got a big problem with being a few hundred pounds over but when you're a TON over then I have issues. Simply because you have to SHARE the road with others and towing that much weight with that truck ain't what I would call safe.

Brake fluid. Easy to change and [i]should[/i] be done every 2-3 years.

Don't use DEX-Cool.  if the manual says not to use it . Why would you ask?? Find the coolant that meets specs and use that one.

I cannot remember the exact quantity but it is listed in your manual . Front and rear take different oil. I like Royal Purple gear lube.
