Has anyone changed their filter intake to a high flow type. K&N, Banks etc.?? I was wondering if I would see mileage and pony gains. Thanks Much. |

I run a K&N air filter on my Powerstroke. I didn't feel any "seat of the pants" gains but I drive a lot of miles and the savings in money (vs. buying a new paper air filter each time it needs changing) is worth it to me. Perhaps on a dyno it would show a gain in HP but I don't know.
As for mileage increase, also nothing major noticed.

I have a K&N style filter on a Airaid intake system.
I sounds "cooler" when I punch it, I do not have to change it (just clean it) and it look cooler when I open the hood.
I get very respectible mileage out of my truck. It is better than stock but it may be the combination of aftermarket accessories. Does the filter alone help? Not for much of anything but cost savings, IMHO.

I have the AFE Air Raid box and filter (on the diesel) and I didn't see a difference in power or mileage versus the K&N in the stock air box. I didn't even notice a difference in sound. I do think it offers improved filtration and better air flow. Given the expense, I think it's a wash cost-wise. Would I buy it again? Probably, if just for the "cool" factor when I open the hood.
