Hi newby to this board, not to ford though. I found a 2001-7.3 with 176,000 miles for 11,300. It looks verry clean but the milage is my concern, also is this a bad price? It looks to be totaly stock, and it's a limited. I had a mech say he wasn't a fan of the navistar. What do you think??

The 7.3 has it's unique concerns from time to time but it is the most reliable machine of all the powerstrokes. no worries about the headgaskets or egr hog wash that plauges the 6.0 and 6.4.
the week link in any power stroke was the transmissions more so that the engines. The engine have an expectations of 500,000 miles or better with good maintance. The one thing you need to be aware of is that there is a cranshaft/camshaft sensor recall for all the 7.3 powerstrokes. ensure that it has been completed or make it a point to complete it as soon as possible...good luck

I'd talk them down on price a little bit. I have 201,000 on my '00 X and the blue book on it is around $9K or so. I have had no problems with my 7.3L and it is still running smoothly.

I would find out the history on the transmission and when it was last replaced. My first one died at 87K. I have 114K on my 2nd and is beginning to show signs of some problems (sporadically hesitating on a few shifts lately).

I just recently picked up an '02 with 95k miles for $15k from a dealer. It's a limited and in near perfect condition. I had been looking at '00 - '03 models (7.3 only) for about 6 months and I can tell you that the price seems about what most I've found in that range and mileage were listed for by dealers. I would think a fair price would be 9.5k to 10k if it's for sale by dealer.

A friend of mine just picked up a '00 psd with 95k miles for $12k in August. He did a lot of research and from what we've both concluded, indications are the tranny's should prob be rebuilt around 125k miles.

Good luck
