Bought a used 2005 with 62K on her and I'm noticing a front end 'shudder' when I first apply the brakes. Only happens when at higher speeds (40mph +), then it settles itself out and brakes feel normal again.
Any idea what is going on? Will a disc brake upgrade eliminate the problem?

Derek - this typically indicates warped front rotors. The rotors probably became warped because at some point the lug nuts were not torqued to specifications when the tires were rotated. 165 ft-lbs is what I torque mine to and I have not had warped rotors since.
To fix your current rotors you can have them "turned" by a local shop or you can replace them. Depending on how many miles are on them and the condition they are in, it may make sense to replace them. Just make sure to torque the lug nuts on the wheels to 165 ft-lbs (or instruct your mechanic to do so).

Derek,
I concur 100% but would add - When you do replace the front brakes, spend the extra bucks and have heavy duty rotors (preferably drilled) and heavy duty pads put on it. You will be amazed at how much better it stops.

That's the plan... I've looked into the drilled or slotted rotors. It take a bit of effort to stop a 4 ton truck!
