Went to my local Dealer ( Camelback Ford, Phoenix AZ) when my truck was running a little sluggish and I have been adding small amount of antifreeze every week and I needed an oiol change anyway...Dealer calls and tells me the oil cooler is clogged and the EGR cooler is leaking and the Turbo has rust and it is $3,000.00 to fix everything...I declined service and thought I would fix it myself...My son and I started taking everything apart this morning at 10am, we had the tubo, ERG cooler and the oil cooler on the bench by 3pm...There is nothing wrong with any of these items...The is ridiculas, I feel Ineed to go back to the dealer Monday morning, not sure what recourse I have, not sure what I can do about this, Need some suggestions...

XMen,

By now you've probably taken some action to fix your issues and I hope they were fruitful. I am a \"greenhorn\" diesel owner of a 2001 EX and can't help you much with the mechanics. However, like you, I have had a few frustrating experiences with dealer(s) as I try to get my arms around what my EX needs to get it 100%. Last week, after paying $159 for an all points check, the dealer gave me a punch list totaling $4,0000 of fixes. Some I will do, others I will seek 2nd opinions.

If it is not to late for advice, I'd suggest a second opinion. If you don't have a regular mechanic, it may take a few misses before you find someone you can trust.

Good luck, if you fixed your problems, I'd be curious to know how.

With my diesel Excursion I've always taken it to the local \"diesel shop\" that's a Ford Truck dealer specializing in heavy duty rigs (semi's, fleets, etc.). These shops typically have a great light service department which handles the Excursion/F250/350 diesel vehicles that come in the door...and their hours are generally more favorable as they cater to businesses.

These are not \"normal\" Ford dealers with a huge parking lot of all vehicles, they will have several bays dedicated to heavy duty trucks and may not have many new vehicles in inventory. They also have the experienced diesel mechanics who know what to look for and don't waste your time with unnecessary recommendations.

Use this site for a search and make sure to select \"Heavy Truck\" as the specialty from the drop-down menu. Call your local one and verify that they have a \"Light Truck Service\" department: http://www.fordvehicles.com/dealerships/
