I just bought an X this past weekend, and I'm experiencing a pretty loud squeaking from the swaybar bushings. Are there any available (OEM or aftermarket) that would alleviate this problem? I remember on an Impala SS I had there were some high performance bushings available that were kevlar lined. They did the trick, so I'm wondering if any are available......anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thanks,

dnp

Is it the stock front sway bar?
Or an aftermarket???
EVERYONE on the old FordExcursion Site (which is migrateing over here!) promoted the Helwig sway bar for the rear.... and a friend of mine put both front and rear Helwig's on his '02 Ex...
U might check the forums over there to see what they recommend...
Loosening the clamps and injecting grease in there wouldn't hurt... but some new bushings would be the best fix...
good luck

David,

As we say in Minnesota, "You Betcha!"

Here's a few pictures of my sway bar install. I purchased the Hellwig sway bar and just about all other Excursion owners who've added an additional sway bar have gone with the same brand.

I've only purchased a sway bar for the rear since the X came without one. It's an easy install...will take a couple hours out of your afternoon.

Although the squeaking you're describing sounds similar to the issues I run into with my front sway bar. I haven't gone aftermarket on the front one because I haven't seen any need to as it seems to work fine -- to fix the squeaking, the bushings have to be lubed ever 6 months or so it seems. Hellwig also makes a front sway bar. I don't know if they have kevlar lining in their bushings, but I would imagine it's better than the stock bushings from Ford.

Summit Racing sells both front and rear sway bars. I'm not sure on the front sway bar price, but the rear will run you in the $135 range to have it shipped to your door.

Good luck!

I've got the same Hellwig on our 2002. I did get a little squeaking doing the mild bumps,I sprayed a little WD-40 on the bushings and the squeaking is gone.

Just installed a hellwig sway bar on my Ex with a 6" lift Had to fabricate a longer extension for the drop down bracket. The beast now follows me on turns and does not feel like its fish tailing. Very happy. I did hear the noise that everyone is talking about (the thump) on the first test drive off the driveway and nothing since.
