Hello Everyone,

I'm a new member and have been enjoying all the info posted here... I own a 2002 Excursion V10 which I love. I ran into a problem this past weekend and was wondering if anyone else had encountered the same. In a rush I closed the rear hatch out of sequence (the left bottom and then the top) and shattered my rear window. It seems to be a design flaw. My insurance is picking up the cost but was wondering also if Ford had acknowledge this problem...

Thanks,

PauBoe

Welcome Paul.

I have not had a problem with the hatch at all! I think for every action there is a re-action and yours might have been from closing the doors wrong in the first place. I mean that in a nice way! As if you put the transmission in reverse at sixty mph, do you think it will still work? Ford can only cover so many of our goofs! Good luck though and keep posting!!! There are many people here with great answers.

Paul, I've done that exact same thing with my doors and did not have any problems. My only guess is that you must have slammed it pretty hard. The only thing that happened to my X was that the top part did not latch.

Good luck with your window. I sure wouldn't want to have to pay for one of those. I'll bet it costs a fortune.

I remember reading a while back that someone shattered their rear window because they closed the lift-gate first. Not sure why, I think it was to back into a garage? Anyway, after I read that I always make sure I close the doors in the right order and I watch closely when the wife closes them, too.
