I am new to the site and a long-time Ford truck owner. However, I am preparing to buy a new 6.0 4WD Excursion. My question (to all) is:

Why do I keep hearing that the Excursion is going to be discontinued, yet my 4 nearest dealers are already placing orders for 2004 models?

Also, if it is simply a chassis update for the F250/F350 trucks, why would Ford not include the Excursion?

Ford has been non-responsive to my corporate inquiries.

Thank you!

Jim

Jim,

2004 is the last model year of the Excursion. Not sure what exactly will replace it as there are only rumors floating around...nothing concrete from Ford. It's still a mystery as to why Ford is discontinuing the current platform since much of it is based off of the SuperDuty. My understanding was that the Excursion was made possible because they were able to re-use so many parts/design characteristics of the SuperDuty line. Apparently it still wasn't profitable enough.

You will love the Excursion...go for '04 with the 6.0L. I'd kill for one of the newer ones but I'll stick with my "old" 2000 Limited.

I believe it will be replaced by the 2 door version. I know a guy who works for Roush and asked him about it because or things mentioned to be about a test vehicle. He mentioned that they are tyesting a 2dr Exc. THey have had some problems with it being top-heavy. I hope is will go into production but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Could it be that Bill Ford is a "proclaimed" greenie and he's buckling under the pressures from the enviro-nazis?

If they discontinue making the Excursions then we are just a few of lucky ones to have them!! People will just want them even more. I live in Texas and I see so many on the road as I do the Suburban. I have a 2000 limited with the 7.3L and we love it. One thing I would recommend is getting the SCMT 1705 I did and look out the power and the towing is awesome.

I just traded my 01X 7.3 on an 04X 6.0 PSD because they are supposed to discontinue it this year. The truck is nearly identical to my 01 except the new engine and transmission make it really move out. New truck is still on its 1st tank with 600 miles on it and the overhead is indicating 16.8 mostly around small town driving. The 01X averaged 14.2 in the same daily use. So far so good. None of the 6.0 problems have popped up yet so maybe it will be a good one.

Surely the X has been profitable! They build 15 or 20 Thousand of them on the Superduty line and get a lot more money for them. I would expect sales could easily be increased if Ford bothered to ADVERTISE the X at all. I do not remember seeing a real Excursion ad since late 2000. I think Uncle Bill just backed off of the X to please the tree huggers ! Equipped with the 6.0 PSD, the X is a quite economical working truck and a serious towing machine. It should be marketed as such instead of being aimed at the soccer mom market (though it can do that too.)

Absolutely right on. One of the guys on the board suggested that they should have called it the "Super Duty Crew Wagon." Would have been far better than trying to fit it into soccermom land.

I think it was the "Biggest SUV on the Planet" ads that drew bad attention to it.

I too had been planning to get another of the Excursions before the end of the run. My local dealer last friday said that they are going out of production as of the end of the 2004 run. I have been on the internet at Crain's Automotive News (Nov 4 story) and The Detroit News's Auto Insider (Oct 28 ). Both saying that not only are they going to keep producing the X, but they will be offering a longer (I kid you not) wheelbase version.

Everything I have seen has been hear-say. Does't Ford have the Ba**s to publish what they are planning to do?

I would not like to get duped to leave a perfectly good 7.3 PSD Limited X to upgrade just over fear that they will not make them anymore. Can anyone say what the real deal is?
