gearman,
I've got some tranny questions related to my '67 Galaxie. I've got a top-end buildup on the 390 in my Galaxie and my drivetrain needs to be addressed to compensate for the higher rpm power the motor now makes. The 390 makes power from 1500-5500 now but I've got a 3-speed cruise-o-matic tranny (torque converter can't be upgraded) and a 3.00 open rearend.
I'm going to put in a set of 3.55's or 3.73's in the rearend but I'll also need to get a new torque converter with a higher stall -- and since the cruise-o-matic is what it is, I'll need to go the C6 route or possibly the AOD route. I don't know much about the AOD's because I've never had one. The reason why I would consider the AOD is that there are a couple shops 'out there' that make FE adapter plates so that the AOD could mate up to the 390 and also they are a 3 speed tranny with overdrive. Overdrive would making cruising even that much more enjoyable in the '67.
What do you know about these trannies? Any recommendations on where I should look to purchase one? How about recommendations on where to purchase a rebuilt C6. The place online that I found AOD trannies and the adapter plates is http://www.fbperformance.com/transmissions/pro.street.aod.lock.htm. I want to compare pricing from some other shops as well.
