Darren is your Excursion a 4x4? I can't tell

I know on the 4x4's the sway bar slides side to side thru the rubber U bushings which then in tail makes the support arms mounted to the frame to tap more often on the drivers side of the frame bottom lip than the passengers side.

BTW that's a nice clean photo of the white X in the driveway

No, it is a 4x2. Sorry left out some key info there.

Also, sorry about that huge pic....I have since resized and cut out the pic. I think this works better. By the way, how would I get the same pic in the left column under my name, like a little thumbnail pic?? Just curious. Took me awhile to figure out how to do the pic at the bottom.

I am having the same problem with my 2000 4x4 v-10!!!!
It is getting really old now...
The noise only occurs when braking, never cornering or after hitting a pot hole......

tightened the body mount and sway bar bolts, still no solution..
one guy thinks it could be the shocks..
maybe it is the calipers
any help would be great

this banana always cheers me up

I don't even know if the 4x2's have front sway bars factory installed

The side mounted sway bar arms can still tap against the frame lip when in forward motion but don't know about knocking or strong popping, one way to eliminate the front sway bar would be is to quick disconnect it and give her a road test to rule it out

Darren, the natural background behind your white Excursion looks much better, looks like a nice neighborhood

The pic under your name on the left-hand side is called an "avatar" and is a member-only feature that is accessed via the "Optional" folder in account management. For a mere $12.99 subscription, you could have access to this feature and more as outlined at http://www.superford.org/members/about.php.

I have the same noise and was worried it was the transmission. However, I also get a clunking sound when I take off from a stop. Same noise or different problem?

really tighten sway bar end links with a wrench and a breaker bar. it takes quite a bit of torque to keep them quiet....dang!!!!

I have a 2000 X 2 wheel drive and it started doing it a couple of months ago, when turning corners, making U-turns or breaking fast. It is very annoying.

I had a clunk that turned out to be a ball joint problem.

jeff, did you every figure out what the problem is? my wife's ex does the same thing. i assume it's the sway bar mounts. i don't have a torque wrench but will do what i can to tighten them up.
