I beleive it to be the shocks.I have the same noise.Have someone look underneath while moving forward or reverse. It is coming most likely from where the leafs are.Their is a traction bar looking device with a rubber mount. It is hitting when you take off and stop.I have yet to get new shocks but hopefully this will resolve the problem.

Jeff, your "clunk" sounds like the classic slip yoke needing grease problem. You here a clunk sound from under the truck whenever going forword from a stand still or coming to a complete stop. There are no zerk fittings to grease you must drop the driveshaft to grease it. If you don't know how to do it let me know and I will explain it to you.

At one time I had a totally different popping sound coming from the driver's side front wheel area. I tightened the body mounts and the anti sway bar mounts. This did improve the ride, but did not solve the popping sound. What I found it to be was the ball joints were bad, had to have uppers and lowers on both sides replaced. No more popping, and the steering is much better.

My noise was coming from the front drivers side as well. After hanging under the truck while my wife drove it through the yard< I found that the track bar would "snap" to the left or to the right depending on the terrain, weight transfer (hitting the brakes) or turning lock to lock hard. I got a 30mm socket and tighened the upper track bar bolt and the noise is now gone.....

MY EX WAS DOING THE SAME THING. THIS MIGHT SOUND CHEESY BUT IT FIXED IT. THE BODY MOUNT TO CAB IS METAL TO METAL. I LOOSENED THE MOUNTS JACKED THE BODY UP A LITTLE BIT CUT TWO CIRCLES OUT OF A FIVE GALLON BUCKET AND SLIDE IT BETWEEN THE BODY AND MOUNT AND THE NOISE IS GONE.

my problem was fixed by tighting up the loose bolts on the drivers seat frame. Not the ones at the floor but the cage to the seat part.

PHILLYX,
Did you ever figure out what the popping noise was? I have the exact same problem on my 2000 4x4 Limited. It's exactly as you described. It makes a popping sound when coming to a stop. I will check the seats, sway bars etc.

Thanks,

Roger

I had to replace the passenger side swaybar end link bolt and nut...It was too long and who ever had done the work on it before, shanked out the bolt that was on it before!! I changed it, and tightened everything down up front, and she sounds much better now, but I want to swap out the bushings that attach to the front axle!! Mine has the clunk, but Its the driveshafts ect...that need re-lubed!!
