Ford announced a few days ago that they are releasing a new airbox/filter element for extreme duty useage. The new airbox will replace the old one from the intake tube all the way back, including a new air box and a whole new filter design. The new filter are designed by the same company that designed the element for the 6.0 engine are should last about three times longer than the old unit.
The claimed superiority in the new filter/box is there is last likelyhood of filter cavitation at whomping throttle over the rectangular box filter. What this means to us PSD owners ? ; more boost, faster boost since the new filter element filters better, with less restriction than the old system. This maybe better than the openair element like the tymar/AFE type since you are controlling the air flow much better through an enclosed "ram air" box effect. Get ready to spend 250.00 ( No, this is not a TSB upgrade, it is an option for severe duty areas).
If you want more info , let me know, there are several posting around the internet at other forums
Have fu n

I am interested in seeing some pics too. In my 2001 Excusrsion PSD we had the dealership replace the airbox/filter due to a TSB. I would like to see if its near what I have on mine.

Thanks!
