Will,
Try this calculator to figure out your speedo issue:
http://www.superford.org/garage/calculators/index.php#finding_rpm
A suspension lift lifts the vehicle with larger front coils and a spacer for the rear leaf springs or larger rear leaf springs. This are more expensive and are in the several hundred dollar range.
A body lift simply lifts the body up off of the frame (suspension is attached to the frame). You can tell if you have a body lift by looking in your wheel well and seeing if you can see a gap like this and a body spacer/block like this:

Ok, thanks. I don't know how that calculator is gonna help, but..... I think I have a body lift, because I see a rubber donut looking thing between the body and frame in the back. Is this all there is holding it or are there more components? How can this be removed? Thanks! |

If it's just a rubber donut, then you don't have a body lift. Like the picture above, it would be a lift block on top of the rubber donut. Do you have just the rubber donut or both?

OK, here's the answer I got from the guy I bought it from: The suspension is lifted. I have never had the body off the frame. The front radius arms have been lifted, as well as the front springs. The rear suspension is lifted by blocks and new over the axle U bolts. Guess I have my answer, eh?! |

Sure do! This can be removed if you have original parts (i.e. original height front coils). Were drop brackets used on the front end for the lift? The blocks in the rear between the leaf spring and the axle can also be removed. You will also need a set of stock shocks. If you do end up removing it, you'll need to get the frontend re-aligned as well.

I don't know....I haven't crawled under it yet....wanted to also ask---the shocks are Bilstein and the ride is rough as hell, I think they are valved for off road use---the truck is all over the damn road at freeway speed---do you know how I could solve that problem? The steering box is rebuilt, so I can only get its the shocks? |

I had good luck with the Rancho adjustable shocks. This way you could set it to a "plush" ride when you wanted. The new RS9000x's have up to 9 adjustable settings. What psi are your tires at? This could be an issue as well. 35 psi will provide a bit of a softer ride if your tires are inflated to anything higher.
