taking out harmonic balancer from my 89 bronco 351w. Before Installing the new one is there anything in the lower end of the motor I need to look over or check? The manual does not specify.

No other than having a look at the front seal you shouldn't need to do anything special other than get a pully puller for the removal, if I remember right that's a interferance fit ballancer. The instalation is much easyer if I'm right about the interferance fit. Just take your new ballancer and boil it until it expands enough to install, will save you some time under the hood oposed to pressing it in with limited room under the hood.
