I am considering buying a Excursion 6.0 disel and want to know how disel performs in the cold. I like to go snow skiing. I also need to pull a travel trailer 26 feet. Is the Excursion stable when pulling on the highway or should I go the fith wheel route?

Chuck,

Diesels perform fine in the cold. They do take longer to warm up compared to a gas engine but once it is warmed up, you will have no issues.

With regards to towing, the Excursion is stable when pulling on the highway. I would recommend visiting the Excursion forums at http://fordexcursions.superford.org/forums/index.php and asking some more questions there -- plenty of folks tow and can give you their feedback.

Excursions or X as they are known make some of the best tow vehicles, especially the diesels. Cold weather no problem, extreme cold plug the block heater in. A 26' trailer should pose no problem for a tongue/ball setup. Get the best hitch you can afford (weight distributing). A 26 foot 5er or goose would be awful short for that type hitch.
