Installed the GPS mount again per how it was done previously, but added in the combination power and data cable as a permanent fixture.
Not much to say about that latter part; I just ran it under the dash while it was apart, and spliced in a cigarette lighter power adapter (RadioShack part number 22-540 )to the existing splice used by the CB. The stock Garmin power adapter (model number 010-10268-00 just plugs into the lighter adapter and tucks up out of the way behind the heater controls. Current drain from the GPS is sufficiently tiny that both the CB and GPS can be used at the same time without blowing any fuses, and the CB appears to not interfere with the GPS' operation.

Okay, here's how this came to be.
I have a 48" Hi-Lift jack, and it's a real biznatch to stow inside of a stock XJ - there are a lot of places it can go, but none of them are convenient and having it hit someone in the back of the head when it broke free was out of the question.
Anyhow, this is how I did it. Two U-bolts and a pair of hooked straps from Home Despot later and it's only a threat to the person who nails me head-on. Details of how I made all of this stuff work are available here. | 8.97 |
