The 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt is a compact car on the GM Delta platform, offered as a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan in LS, LT, and SS trims. Base cars used the 2.2 L Ecotec LAP inline-four with variable valve timing rated at 155 hp (net), paired with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The 2009 Cobalt SS carried the turbocharged 2.0 L Ecotec LNF inline-four producing 260 hp and 260 lb-ft, mated exclusively to a Getrag 5-speed manual. For 2009 Chevrolet also offered the Cobalt XFE fuel-economy package, which paired the 2.2 L engine with revised gearing for a 37 mpg highway rating.
