The 2002 Chevrolet Suburban is a GMT800-generation full-size SUV offered in half-ton 1500 and three-quarter-ton 2500 series with rear- or four-wheel drive. The 1500 used the 5.3L Vortec V8 rated at 285 SAE net horsepower, while the 2500 carried the 6.0L Vortec V8 (about 300 horsepower) with the 8.1L Vortec V8 (about 340 horsepower) optional; all were backed by a four-speed automatic, a 4L60E in the 1500 and a 4L80E in the heavier 2500. As a mid-cycle year in the 2000-2006 run, the 2002 model was largely a carryover ahead of the interior updates that arrived for 2003.
