The 2012 Chevrolet Suburban is a late-generation carryover within the GMT900 family (2007-2014), offered in half-ton 1500 and three-quarter-ton 2500 series with rear- or four-wheel drive. The 1500 used the flex-fuel-capable 5.3L Vortec V8 rated at 320 horsepower on gasoline (326 horsepower on E85) paired with a six-speed automatic (6L80), while the 2500 carried the 6.0L Vortec V8 of about 352 horsepower. By 2012 the six-speed automatic had replaced the four-speed unit that the half-ton used at the start of the generation.
