The 1978 Ford Escort in this registry is the European Mk2, sold from 1975 to 1980 and never officially imported to the United States. Mainstream cars used 1.1L and 1.3L Kent crossflow fours in L, GL, Sport, and Ghia trims, while the RS2000 carried a 2.0L Pinto four rated 110 PS (DIN). For 1978 Ford added the RS2000 Custom with Recaro seats, and a lower-priced RS2000 on steel wheels took over the slot left by the Escort Mexico late in the year.
