The 1992 Ford Escort added a four-door sedan to the second-generation line, sharing underpinnings with the Mazda Protege. The new LX-E sedan carried the GT's 127 hp (net) 1.8L DOHC Mazda four, while other models kept the 88 hp (net) 1.9L CVH. Hatchbacks and the wagon continued unchanged.
