The 2010 Ford Explorer was the final model year of the fourth generation and the last body-on-frame Explorer. It continued the single-overhead-cam 4.0-liter V6 and the 4.6-liter three-valve V8, with electronic stability control and side curtain airbags. For 2011 the Explorer was redesigned as a unibody crossover on the D4 platform, ending the Ranger-derived body-on-frame layout used since 1991.
