The 1966 Ford Fairlane grew onto an all-new body with stacked quad headlights and a 116 inch wheelbase, adding the intermediate line's first convertibles. New GT and GTA models carried a standard 390 four-barrel rated at 335 hp gross, with GTA denoting the Sport Shift Cruise-O-Matic automatic. Ford also built a small run of 427 side-oiler hardtops with lift-off fiberglass hoods for drag racing.
