2019-2026 Jeep WranglerWrangler JL

2019–2026 2 on the wall

The Jeep Wrangler JL is the fourth-generation Wrangler, sold from the 2018 model year through 2026 in two-door and four-door (Unlimited) body styles. It is body-on-frame with solid front and rear axles and a five-link coil-spring suspension, using more aluminum (doors, hood, hinges, windshield frame) than the prior JK to reduce weight. Powertrains span the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, a 2.0 liter turbocharged four, a 3.0 liter EcoDiesel V6, the 6.4 liter 392 Hemi V8, and the 4xe plug-in hybrid.

Other Jeep Wrangler generations

Platform

The Jeep Wrangler JL (2018-2026) retains a ladder body-on-frame chassis with solid front and rear axles and a five-link coil-spring setup at each end. Compared with the JK it replaced, the JL uses aluminum for the doors, hood, hinges, fenders, and windshield frame to cut weight while keeping the steel frame. Base and mid trims run a Dana 30 front and Dana 35 or Dana 44 rear axle, while Rubicon trims add heavier-duty Dana 44 axles front and rear with electronic locking differentials and a front sway-bar disconnect.

Engine lineup

  • 3.6 liter Pentastar V6: naturally aspirated, rated 285 horsepower. Offered from the 2018 launch; an eTorque mild-hybrid version was added.
  • 2.0 liter turbocharged inline-four: rated 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft, paired with eTorque mild-hybrid assist. Available early in the JL run.
  • 3.0 liter EcoDiesel V6 turbodiesel: rated 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft, added for the 2020 model year and offered through 2023.
  • 6.4 liter 392 Hemi V8: rated 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft, introduced on the Rubicon 392 for the 2021 model year.
  • 4xe plug-in hybrid: combines the 2.0 liter turbo four with two electric motors and a battery pack for a combined 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft, introduced for the 2021 model year.

Drivetrain

All Jeep Wrangler JL models are four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case. Sport, Sahara, and Willys trims use a part-time system, while the Rubicon uses a heavier-duty transfer case with a lower low-range ratio. The 4xe drives its rear axle electrically in EV mode and engages the full four-wheel-drive system when the engine runs.

Transmissions

A six-speed manual was offered only on the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6. An eight-speed automatic (TorqueFlite family) is used across the rest of the range and is the only transmission for the 2.0 liter turbo, the 3.0 liter EcoDiesel, the 6.4 liter 392, and the 4xe plug-in hybrid.

Year-by-year notable changes
