A group of 4x4s bogged in gray silt in a canyon wash: a lifted yellow mini-truck on oversized tires sits axle-deep in the mud, a white-and-maroon two-tone SUV with pinstriping is buried up to its rockers at right, and a black soft-top Jeep, white pickup and other rigs wait on firmer ground while onlookers watch. Steep brush-covered mountains rise behind under a clear blue sky.
