As you have seen Keith's idea was to box in the entire front frame horns with some good ol' steel (3"x6" IIRC).
The x-member is 2"x4".
This set up will prevent any shifting up front and obviously make the front part of the frame a LOT stronger. THIS is not going anywhere.
When i flex the leafs the x-member will also help from the frame shifting upwards, and downwords.
