The 1986 Mercury Cougar gained the newly mandated center high-mount stop lamp, and its optional 5.0L V8 adopted sequential multi-port fuel injection. It was also the final year for the turbocharged 2.3L four in the XR-7, which switched to V8 power for 1987.
