The 1966 Mercury Monterey was the entry full-size Mercury in the 1965-1968 generation, which had adopted more Lincoln-like styling. Its standard 390 cubic inch V8 was rated at 265 hp (275 hp with automatic), while options included a Mercury-exclusive 410 cubic inch V8 at 330 hp and a new 428 cubic inch V8 at 345 hp. Two-door hardtops received a thinner-pillar roofline for 1966, and body styles included Breezeway and pillarless four-door sedans, a convertible, and a station wagon. A three-speed manual was standard with the Merc-O-Matic automatic optional.
