The 2002 Nissan Altima was an all-new third-generation design (chassis code L31) that moved the model into the midsize class on a larger platform. For the first time the Altima offered a V6, a 3.5L VQ35DE rated at 240 hp (net), alongside the base 2.5L QR25DE inline-four rated at 175 hp (net). It was a 4-door sedan sold in base, S, SL, and SE trims, with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.
