The 2002 Pontiac Grand Am belongs to the fifth-generation N-body line (1999-2005), sold as a two-door coupe and four-door sedan in SE and GT trim. For 2002 the base engine changed to the 2.2L Ecotec L61 DOHC inline-four (140 hp net), replacing the 2.4L LD9 Twin Cam, while the GT carried the 3.4L 3400-series V6 (170 hp net). A four-speed automatic was standard, with a five-speed manual offered on the four-cylinder. The fifth-generation body had been introduced for 1999 and continued largely unchanged for 2002.
