The 1980 Toyota Hilux wore its badge only outside North America; in the United States the same third-generation truck was sold as the Toyota Pickup. The 20R 2.2-liter four made its final US appearance for 1980 before the longer-stroke 22R replaced it the following year. The factory 4x4 introduced for 1979, Toyota's first four-wheel-drive pickup in the American market, carried on with a leaf-sprung solid front axle.
